Moving Day

Well, we left this morning at around 8:00 a.m. and made it to Virginia Tech at about 1:00. The traffic was horrendous! We finally found Washington (the road that passes in front of Miles Hall) but it was one way NOT the way we were heading so we drove to the far side of the Quad and parked my car and then took PT (which had all of his stuff except the guitars) over to near the Stadium and found a place to park. Everythink unloaded and up to this room and settled (not unpacked but settled).

Nicole (myPie's best friend) got to her dorm room about 3:30 and so after about an hour he headed over there to see her and we came here to our hotel room. It's a really nice hotel and it's right by Cracker Barrel (which is where myShelb wants to eat) so Ted just left to get Pierce and Nicole so that we can eat there. Fun since it's raining cats and dogs right now and the roads are a bit floody.

Packing

Been helping my son pack clothing and items that he'll need for college. It's been a heart-wrenching morning. Two "suitcases" and a box so far. Still have more to pack but it's mostly finished. We'll pack the car(s) tonight and leave tomorrow at around 6:30(ish).

myShelby cried. This will be hardest on her I think. 5 hours from her brother is quite a distance, the biggest separation they've ever had.

myPie handedly beat me to smithereens tonight. The only thing he DIDN'T smack me down on was on the battlefield!!

Home again, home again jigity jig.

We're home. Whew. Wednesday morning we woke and ate breakfast (btw: did I mention how good the breakfast is at the Holiday Inn Express?) and packed the car so we were out of the hotel by 11:00. Off to Caroline's. Parked the car and then off to the Museum of Natural History. I posted all the pictures here. I was a tad disappointed because I expected (stupid of me I know) to see Teddy Roosevelt on his horse, the T-Rex in the rotunda, the Tiki (who was there but we missed him somewhere), the little people in the dioramas, Dexter (and what is with the African animals locked behind glass?), and Sacawagea with the Lewis and Clark expedition. Sigh. The magic of television once again disallusions a young, impressionable mind (ok, not that young).

We got back to Caroline's about 6:00 and then decided to eat dinner (at Subway). We hit the road about 7:30 (though got a taddie bit turned around leaving Brooklyn). Listened to a terrific book on tape, Dark Summer by Iris Johansen. We got home right around 3:30 so by the time we got the stuff in the house and off to bed it was around 4:00. AM!

Woke THIS morning at 8:00(ish) a.m. and then spent ALL day uploading the 280+ that I took in NY and then headed off to VBS (final night but I made one of them at least).

It was a great trip though.
